Behind the Story
Pulling Back the Curtain on Bullied Nearly to Death: Loving My Life
The story took over a decade to develop!
While I had many memories and nightmares about my life, I needed to put them into some logical order before actually writing the book itself. That took me on a journey into my life that I was not anticipating to be quite so emotional. I literally cried while writing some portions of my story. I also laughed out loud while writing other parts. As my memories and nightmares began to coincide with items including pictures, videos, toys, and other tangible things I had stored away over the years, the story telling began.
Originally, I had written almost 300,000 words!
After having a discussion with a few potential publishers, I cut it back to under 100,000 words and focused on the most traumatic part of my life. Ultimately, it was the best decision! You see, I learned more about myself in terms of overcoming obstacles, focusing on love and compassion, and that I can conquer self-doubt and depression. By understanding that about myself, I began to understand how much my story could help others.
The topic of my book went from telling my full life story to telling my story of abuse, depression, suicide attempts, recovery, and helping others!
Yet, I did not want my readers to believe that my life was, all depression, all the time. Life has it's ups and downs. So I included, in as close to chronological order as possible, some of the amazing and great memories. My story explains how tight a grip my depression had on me, to the point that those happy memories were often not enough to rescue me from harming myself.
The message I hope readers understand is to never let the bad conquer the good. Always find a way to make your life better - believe me, there is always a way.
Though it may take a lot of suffering to get there,
the awards that await you are not worth giving up too soon!
